Description

  • Portrait of a young woman, bust-length, wearing a red turban and a pearl earring
  • stamped lower left with the inventory number 471(?)
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas is unlined. The paint surface is generally secure with fine craquelure throughout. There are some areas of blistering where the paint has started to flake in the upper right corner and along the top edge. Some of these paint losses have been retouched and are visible to the naked eye, as are other discoloured old retouchings in her face and neck. These are confirmed by inspection under UV light. Offered in a carved gilt wood frame, fairly abraided but structurally sound.
