Catalogue Note

A 17th-century copy, with some differences, after the original by Granacci in the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin (see C. von Holst, Francesco Granacci, Munich 1974, p. 129, cat. no. 3, illustrated p. 55, pl. 5). The composition of the present painting is in fact closest to a second autograph version of this subject by Granacci which was sold London, Sotheby's, 24 June 1970, lot 116.
