- Portrait of Sir Thomas Hodgson of Rowston, Lincolnshire, three-quarter length, standing beside a column, wearing brown robes
- inscribed lower left; Sr. Thos. Hodgson of Rouston/ in Lincolnshire Bart.
- oil on canvas, together with a Portrait of a Lady, said to be Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (1660-1744) by the Studio of Sir Godfrey Kneller, three-quarter length, standing, wearing a white dress with red robes.

Condition
STRUCTURE
Both canvases have been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
Both paintings appear to be in good condition. There is one very small area of paint loss in the extreeme upper right of the portrait of Lady Marlborough, and a small number of scratches in the upper right of the portrait of Thomas Hodgson. There is a discoloured and opaque varnish over both, which covers some of the detail in the darker areas of both paintings.
ULTRAVIOLET FOR HODGSON
There is scattered retouching in the background, predominantly down the right hand side of the canvas.
ULTRAVIOLET FOR MARLBOROUGH
Examination uner ultraviolet light reveals scattered minor retouching to the background. There is a horizonatal line of retouching, approximately five inches long, running through the bottom of the sitter's lips, and minor fleck around the eyes.
FRAME
Both held in matching carved and gilded frames.
