  • Portrait of a lady, half-length, wearing a richly embroidered dress with a white ruff and an elaborate bejewelled headdress
  • inscribed upper right: ANNO 1598/ AETATIS SVAE./ 24
  • oil on canvas, laid on board

Condition

The canvas has been laid down on board. The paint surface is secure if a little flattened and slightly abraded in the background. The paint surface is under a dirty layer of varnish. No major damages are apparent. Small discoloured retouchings can be observed in the background, in the collar and some minor ones in the dress. Inspection under UV light reveals a few additional retouchings in the figure's face and hands and more extensive retouchings in the background. (MW)
