Condition
The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is secure if abraded in areas. The varnish impedes thorough inspection under UV light. The wood and plaster frame has suffered some minor knocks.

The composition derives, with minor differences, from the painting attributed to the School of Murillo in the collection of Haddo House, Aberdeenshire (see Diego Angulo Iñiguez, Murillo, Madrid 1981, vol. I, p. 423, cat. no. 1275, reproduced vol. II, plate 558).
