Catalogue Note
The largest group of drawings by Giandomenico of this theme is in the Correr Museum in Venice, where fourteen are preserved. This drawing, numbered 3, must be among the first of the series which, according to Byam Shaw, runs up as high as 102. The drawings are mostly upright in shape like the present one. Byam Shaw pointed out the evident relation of the God the Father with Angels at the top of Giambattista's altarpiece, S. Thecla delivering the city from the plague, in the Duomo, Este, signed and dated 1759, one of his most impressive creations, which must have inspired Giandomenico.
