Condition

Unframed. Laid down. There are some dark ink stains around the edges of the sheet, and some small brown spots to the right. The white heightening has oxidised in parts and the sheet is a little browned at the upper edge. The image is still very strong, however and overall the condition is not bad.

Catalogue Note

We have not been able to connect this study with a painting, but it is definitely the work of a Lombard master.  The style is reminiscent of Morazzone and Daniele Crespi and the technique in particular is quite close to that of the former.
