Catalogue Note

Persephone was picking flowers in a meadow when Pluto, inflamed by Cupid's arrow, fell in love with her and carried her off in his chariot to the Underworld.  The attribution to Jean Cousin has been confirmed to the present owner by Sylvie Beguin, on the basis of a photograph.
