Catalogue Note
Pasinelli, along with Carlo Cignani and Domenico Canuti, were the three main proponents of advanced painting in Bologna in the last quarter of the seventeenth century. The artists studied with Simone Cantarini, Guido Reni's most distinguished pupil, and later with Flaminio Torri. The painterly handling and the deep, luxuriousness of the color are characteristic of the artist.
We are grateful to Daniele Benati for confirming the attribution of the present painting based on photographs.
