Catalogue Note

Comparative Literature:
A. Forray-Carlier, Le Mobilier du Musée Carnavalet, Editions, Dijon, 2000, pp. 234-1235, no. 86 (inv. MB 238).

A very similar gilt-bronze mount  to that on the bottom left door of this piece depicting  a neo-classical female figure is found on a commode in the Musée Carnavalet, illustrated by Carlier op. cit, p. 234 and 235, except that the figure's pole ends in a banner with the initials N.L.R. One also finds on the bed of Joseph Bonaparte these figures with a lance which is now in the Musée national des château de Malmaison de Bois-Préau.
Although this stamp has not been recorded to date, Denise Ledoux-Lebard, Les Ebénistes Parisiens (1795-1830), Les oeuvres et leurs marques, Paris, 1951, p. 154, states that the firm are recorded in l'Almanach du Commerce, at 23 rue des Vinaigriers, faubg St-Martin, from 1844.
