Catalogue Note

Comparative Literature:
P. Hughes, The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Furniture, London, 1996, Vol. III, no.251, F140-141, p. 1271.

The characteristic marble plinth design is reminiscent of the production of this ciseleur-doreur Francois Rémond (1747-1812, master 1774), around 1775. This design of base is most frequently seen on candelabra with seated bronze figures after Etienne-Maurice Falconet, see for example the pair in the Wallace Collection, London.
