Description
The multi-stranded torsade composed of numerous emerald, sapphire and ruby beads, spaced by freshwater pearls and accented by fluted gold beads and rondelles, completed by a ram's-head clasp with marquise-shaped sapphire eyes, further decorated with 82 round diamonds weighing approximately 4.60 carats, mounted in 18 karat gold, length 16½ inches, clasp detaches to be worn as brooch with removable tassel pendant of similar design, accompanied by brooch fitting. Tassel pendant not illustrated.
Condition
Good condition. The baroque freshwater pearls with varying degrees of luster and with moderate pink and green overtones. The medium-deep blue sapphires, deep purplish red rubies and medium slightly bluish green emeralds are heavily included. The diamonds are approximately G-H color, VS clarity. The sapphires set into the eyes are dark blue, one with surface-reaching inclusions. Though 16 inches in length, the necklace fits like a choker. The tassel (not illustrated) is designed like the torsade, but with a greater predominance of freshwater pearls. Please note that one tassel has become detached and will be repaired for the purchaser by Sotheby's.
