Condition

(This condition report has been provided courtesy of Wilson Conservation) The painted wood construction is in good condition. Numerous joints have opened where the outward elements (flowers and vines) are attached to the flat background form. Two significant open seams were evident one on each side of the composition about mid-level just below the fasteners that secure the artwork to the wall. The open seam on the proper right side moves very little whereas the seam on the proper left side moves much more when pushed. The cracks in the seams that have developed are due to the weight and movement of the wood. We recommend that these joints be closed and reinforced to ensure the safety and structural integrity of the artwork. Tiny 1/2-inch long hairline cracks can be seen on the painted surface caused by dimensional changes in the wood. Dimensional cracks can also be found on the flowers and vines throughout. The matte white paint is in good condition although there are several areas where it appears brittle and lifting. Most of these areas are on the side face of the flat background element. The insides of the flowers that are painted a matte black appear dirty and dusty.
