Condition
The surface is varnished. The impasto areas appear to be in good condition. Under ultraviolet light there appears to be extensive inpainting throughout the work. There are retouches scattered throughout the sky, the largest spot measuring 2 in. with several 1 in. spots to the left of it. There is a 1 ½ in. line of inpainting in the smokestack at the center of the work. There is also significant inpainting in the large boat and in the water, the largest area measuring 1 ½ by ½ in. with extensive smaller areas of inpainting surrounding it. There is a large area of inpainting in the lower right corner measuring 2 by 2 in. There are several spots around this as well. Overall in stable condition.
