Condition

Work is in good condition. Executed on buff colored wove paper. hinged to mount at upper edge. Paper has large fibers visible throughout which are inherent to the sheet and there are scattered creases which may also be inherent to the paper. There is a nail-head size area of light surface abrasion in to the right of center just above the bottom edge and a small pinhole loss just to left of center 4-5 inches above lower edge. Otherwise fine. There is also a museum stamp on the verso.

Catalogue Note

The present work is a preparatory study for the ceiling panel Die Medizin, originally conceived for the faculty of Vienna Medicine and later destroyed. The painting depicted Hygieia, the goddess of health in Greek mythology.
