Description

  • Portrait of a Young Man in a Red Hat

Condition

Canvas is relined. Discolored retouchings are visible to the naked eye in the lips, pupils, and nose, and small areas in the drapery of the sitter. U.V. light reveals thick, milky varnish over canvas, rendering other repairs largely invisible. This varnish is also visible to the naked eye. U.V. also reveals a repaired tear by the hand of the sitter. The painted flesh seems to have retained most of its coloration and paint quality. The painting is in a carved and gilt wood frame.
