Catalogue Note

In ancient times, early Polynesians used the kukui tree as a source of light.  Therefore, the kukui nut earned the nickname Candle Nut.  By breaking the shell in half and leaving the seed intact, they were then strung on a wooden stick and left to burn overnight.  Today, the precious kukui nuts are called the Jewel Nuts of Paradise Island.  Each piece has a distinct character of its own, for no two are alike in color, size or luster.  Designed and fashioned into a unique piece of jewelry, each kukui nut is the shape of a heart.  These are known as a Sincere Gift from God.  Give one to someone special and show how much you care about them.  To wear one yourself was the mark of nobility in ancient times.
