Description

The pear-shaped diamond weighing 29.53 carats, 2 heart-shaped diamonds weighing 1.35 and 1.51 carats, mounted in platinum, size 5.

Condition

Accompanied by GIA report no. 1102964356 stating that the diamond is D color, Internally Flawless; with an original working diagram stating that the stone may be potentially flawless. Together with a letter from the GIA stating that the diamond has been determined to be a type IIa. Further set with numerous single-cut diamonds throughout the gallery, basket and shank weighing approximately 1.60 carats, with a quality of approximately F-G color and VVS-VS clarity. The 1.35 & 1.51 carat heart-shaped diamonds are approximately E-F color and VS clarity. One tiny single-cut diamond missing in the undergallery, otherwise in good condition. Due to the continuously set diamonds on the shank, the ring cannot be sized easily.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by GIA report no. 1102964356 stating that the diamond is D color, Internally Flawless; with an original working diagram stating that the stone may be potentially flawless.  Together with a letter from the GIA stating that the diamond has been determined to be a type IIa.

As the letter from the GIA attests, under 2% of the world's diamonds fall into the type II category, stones that contain little or no nitrogen.  Within the rare classification, those stones graded as type IIa are the most chemically pure and are often completely colorless.  Type IIb stones which contain boron, are often blue in color.
