Description

  • 92cm. high, 135cm. wide, 58.5cm. deep; 3ft. ¼in., 4ft. 5in., 1ft. 11in.
the tops with broad crossbandings outlined with inlaid narrow threaded pearl inlaid borders, the gilt-gesso guilloche moulded edges each above a drawer, the central recesses with dummy doors, the sides with real doors each enclosing an arrangement of pigeonholes and shelves

Condition

Good overall restored condition. Refinished. One top with a feint shrinkage line running across. The guilloche borders to the edges of each top re-gilded. Handles have been replaced. Restorations to the veneers of each of the recessed concave dummy door panels beneath each frieze drawer. Minor characteristic feint age cracks to frieze panels and aprons. Minor veneer restorations to door crossbandings, mainly above key holes. Restorations to the pendant mouldings to the lowest points of each arched apron. Restorations to the bead-mouldings above directly above the tapered square feet. Minor restorations to the feet the front right foot to one commode possibly replaced. Evidence of door hinge replacements and re-locations. Minor old marks and scratches. Good consistent colour. A rare pair of commodes with the unusual feature of concave central sections.
