Catalogue Note
This cup and saucer were originally part of a tea service sold at Sotheby's, London, May 23, 1967, lots18-24, where the cataloguing descibes the saucer illustrated with the present cup as "dated 1738, overwritten with a 4 over the 3". It is unclear why the date was altered but the presence of a Dreher's mark and the absence of impressed numbers suggest a pre-1740 dating.
