Condition
Previously with a backplate. Some surface dirt to the ormolu. Shaft of drip panel on one is broken and repaired.

Catalogue Note
The 18th century model, dating from 1740-1750, has recently been attributed to Charles Cressent (1685-1767). See A. Praderè, Charles Cressent, Dijon, 2003, pp. 206-207 and 307-308. A pair of this model was sold Christie's, New York, 18 October 2002, lot 656.
