Description

  • height 27 3/4 in.; width 18 1/2 in.; depth 16 in.;
  • 70.5 cm; 47 cm; 40.6 cm
the hinged top opening to a lead-lined compartmentalized interior, raised on a conforming stand.  Formerly fitted with casters.

Condition

Overall good restored condition; the surface re-finished; the top with some minor replacements and inpainting to the cross-banding around the central fan-medallion; inpainted age crack to the back edge; some inpainted patches to the veneers of the frieze of the top at the corners; very minor losses around the knob with a small replacement to the veneer; the lock and catch replaced with patches around both; the front panel lacking it's stopper to the circular hole at the bottom edge for the release of water; numerous small patches and inpainting to the satinwood bandings to each panel; the underside of the cellaret with a paper label marked 2.; five screw holes to the underside edges of the cellaret probably where stand was secured; the gilt-metal escutcheons possibly later or replaced. The stand with five screw holes probably to secure it to the cellaret; one leg with glue to the top probably as it slipped out of its mortise; the same leg with chips to the tips of each bracket; replaced long chip to the foot with some small losses to the bottom edge; age crack to one corner of frieze and old repaired horizontal break to one side with some inpainting; small loss to veneer to bottom of one leg; originally fitted with casters. Overall with old marks, scratches, scuffs and bruises consistent with age and use.
