fitted with a frieze drawer, on casters.

Condition

Overall good restored condition; nice color; the top repositioned; the frame with later screws and screw channels for repositioning probably due to warpage; the top with half-butterfly patches to the underside at the center possibly to correct old warpage; the underside of the front right corner of the top with a patch at join with right flap; slight warpage to top with a butterfly repaired age crack to the front edge; the front edge with a plug; the back edge with two plugs to the edge probably to correct warpage; age crack to drawer bottom due to shrinkage; small replaced section approximately 1 inch in length to top molded edge of back left corner; front right door with two age cracks to the frame; left door with an age crack to the frame; small loss to lower molded edge of front near front left leg; old repaired break to left side panel at front left corner next to front left leg; casters possibly replaced; overall with some old stains, scratches.

Catalogue Note

Thomas Chippendale, The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1762, 3rd ed., pl. XXXIII, illustrates a similar design for a breakfast (or supper) table, with 'a Shelf, inclosed [sic] with Fretwork: Sometimes they are inclosed [sic] with Brass Wirework [as with the present table].... In the front is a Recess for the Knees, &c.'.  Desmond FitzGerald, Georgian Furniture, 1969, pl. 80, illustrates a similar t table in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
