Catalogue Note
Thomas Chippendale, The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1762, 3rd ed., pl. XXXIII, illustrates a similar design for a breakfast (or supper) table, with 'a Shelf, inclosed [sic] with Fretwork: Sometimes they are inclosed [sic] with Brass Wirework [as with the present table].... In the front is a Recess for the Knees, &c.'. Desmond FitzGerald, Georgian Furniture, 1969, pl. 80, illustrates a similar t table in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
