Condition

Overall good condition, the seats with springing, rails reinforced with additional rails and blocks; front right bracket replaced to the first chair, left and right side brackets possibly replaced, front left bracket with two replaced sections; the front right bracket probably later and with losses and old repaired breaks, the left and right side brackets replaced; casters replaced; overall with old marks, scratches, scuffs and bruises.

These chairs are in the Chippendale manner and can be compared with similar examples illustrated in The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director of 1754, notably the 'Chinese Chairs' in plate XXIII, which displays a related pattern of interlaced fretwork to the legs.
