Condition
Overall good condition; numerous breaks to the scalloped apron of the tester, pieces are lacking but present in a bag; overall with some old marks and scratches; the swinging candelabra electrified.

Catalogue Note
These beds are copies of a pair made for the Hon. Francis Charteris of Armsfield, Scotland, circa 1758, a subscriber to Thomas Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754. A drawing, now in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, for a 'Chinese Sopha' and published in Chippendale's Director, 1754, pl. XXVI, has a similar canopy; see C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, 1978, vol. II, pp. 36-37, figs. 58-59.
