Catalogue Note

Although never an official Subordinate Goldsmith to the Jewel Office, existing work confirms their patronage of Pierre Harache I: the wine fountain of 1700 and cistern, basins and ewer of 1701 supplied to the 1st Duke of Marlborough (Althorp, sometimes given as Harache II); the wine cistern of 1704, commissioned by Queen Anne (Barber-Surgeons' Company); the Richmond gold race cup of 1705 (Christie's, London, 20 November 2001, lot 10 as Pierre Harache II);

These candlesticks are very close to a set of four by Isaac Liger, 1708, which formed part of the Earl of Warrington's plate at Dunham Massey (see Lomax and Rothwell, cat. no. 5, p. 45).
