Condition
This panel appears to be in very good condition. There are areas along the top of the panel, in the shadows of the rain clouds and spots in the rocks in the foreground that flouresce under UV. It was not uncommon for Casson to revisit panels and make touch ups, partucularly in advance of an exhibition, and we suspect that this is the case with this panel.

Catalogue Note
The rocks in the Precambrian Shield are noted for their stunted pine trees whipped by the wind. In East Wind, a scene from Algonquin Park, Casson has created his interpretation of an early theme of the Group of Seven with the image of two tall spindly pine trees appearing to grow out of a massive rock and silhouetted against a leaden sky.
