Catalogue Note

Landscape with Cattle, Victoria is a high characteristic example of Buvelot's watercolours, a tranquill transcript of nature in which the civilising hand of man is present and cows graze contentedly.  The area is fenced, with figures nearby, cool waters flow with cattle drinking, undulating hills in the background.  Buvelot was the master of such scenes, all enveloped in a luminous atmosphere with the bush bathed in gentle sunlight.
