Description

  • John Woodhouse Audubon (After)
  • Nine-banded Armadillo, Male (Plate CXLVI)
  • sheet 530 by 693 mm 20 7/8 by 27 1/4
Hand-colored lithograph, by J.T. Bowen, Philadelphia, 1848, on wove paper, with margins, generally in good condition, apart from mat stain, light surface soiling, the sheet edges with small tears and losses, framed

Condition

The image looks good and the colors are bright. The paper tone has been discolored by the overmat, darkest at the opening. There is light surface soiling. There is a jagged loss at the lower right sheet corner with an associated sharp diagonal crease (breaking through at the lower sheet edge). V-shaped tear at the left sheet extends slightly into the image, backed by linen tape, and there is a small adjacent paper loss. There are three additional tears in the sheet edges and a very shallow loss at left.
