Description
- John James Audubon (after)
- Yellow-Crowned Heron (Plate CCCXXXVI)
- sheet 965 by 632 mm 38 by 24 7/8 inches
Hand-colored etching, engraving and aquatint, by R. Havell, on paper with watermark J. Whatman 1838, with margins (trimmed), generally in good condition, the paper tone discolored, scattered foxing throughout, framed
Condition
The colors look good, however the paper tone has noticeably darkened due to mat burn and exposure to light. Additional coloration comprises of time stain and foxmarks loosely scattered throughout the background. There is a tiny hole in the branch at left which has been backed, with associated tape stain on the verso. A tear at upper left measures 1". The upper sheet edge was previously curved over the backboard and five of the stitch holes have broken through. Sheet edges are trimmed approximately 1/8".
