Description
- Robert John Thornton (Publisher)
- Sacred Egyptian Bean, Queen Flower, Blue Egyptian Water Lily
- First plate 436 by 346 mm 17 1/8 by 13 5/8 inches
- First sheet 567 by 452 mm 22 3/8 by 17 3/4 inches
Three aquatints printed in colors, the second and third with stipple engraving, each with hand-coloring, two after Peter Henderson published 1804, the third after Philip Reinagle published 1812, on heavy wove paper, with margins, generally in good condition except each with light- and mat stain, occasional fox marks, one in the image, framed (3 prints)
Condition
Each sheet is discolored by exposure to light and an acidic mat, darkest in the outer margins and at the mat opening. This does not appear to have affected the colors. There are small, soft handling creases visible under light.
Egyptian Water Lily: There is a fox mark visible in the lily pad at the upper right. Additional foxing is visible throughout the margins, most notably in the publication line and above the upper plate edge. The left sheet edge is trimmed and there are few nicks and tiny losses at the disbound edge at right.
Egyptian Bean: Seven fox marks in the margins are fairly dark, particularly the three below the publication line. The sheet edge at right is unevenly trimmed.
Queen Flower: There are several small creases and a few tears, the longest measuring 3/4", along the right disbound edge.
