Catalogue Note
A soup tureen and large platter from this service are illustrated by David S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, p. 690, no. U7, who notes that the service was made for Hill Dawe, of Ditcheat House, Somerset. The tureen and platter illustrated by Howard are from a service sold at Christie's, London in November 1951, which comprised approximately 240 pieces, including fifteen custard cups, and it is therefore most likely that it and the present service are one and the same.
