Description
each painted in the center with the arms of Tillard impaling West quarterly; comprising: four 10-inch plates and four 9ΒΌ-inch plates. Some damages.
Condition
Four 9 1/4 inch plates - one has a crack running from the rim about 6 inches long, towards the center, and several small 1/8 inch or less rim edge chips.
ONe has a 1/4 inch chip and a 1 1/2 inch haircrack running from it, and several 1/8 inch or less rim edge chips.
One has a 1/4 inch chip under the rim and numerous 1/8 or less rim edge chips.
One has a 1/ 1/2 inch haircrack to the rim and numerous 1/4 inch or less rim edge chips.
Four 10 inch plates - one has a shallow 1/2 inch chip under the rim and two shallow less than 1/8 inch chips.
One is in good condition.
One has a riveted 6 inch curving haircrack running from the rim towards the center. This one also has a 1/2 inch shallow chip under the rim.
One has several 1/4 inch or less shallow chips under the rim edge.

This service appears to be unrecorded. A watercolor of a teabowl and saucer with the arms of Tillard impaling Clayton is illustrated by David S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Vol. II, p. 336. The present service was made for Joas Tillard, born 1690, youngest son of Abraham Tillard of London and his wife Mary Bateman, who married on 2nd April 1726, Katherine West (died 1757).
