Description
- Gustav Stickley
- A Rare Pair of Andirons
both with firm's impressed circular mark
copper-plated wrought iron
Provenance
Acquired directly from the descendants of the original owners, Kennebunkport, ME
Literature
Stephen Gray and Robert Edwards, eds., Collected Works of Gustav Stickley, New York, 1981, p. 142 (for a related model)
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The copper-plated wrought iron surfaces display light surface wear and discoloration consistent with age and use. Both andirons have small scattered traces of white and red paint, most likely from prior surface contact. The iron surfaces throughout show occasional surface irregularities and imperfections which appear to be inherent in the making. The rear log holders show more significant wear, corrosion and surface discoloration from prior use. Both andirons retain the original bolts (two on each andiron) which secure the front posts to the rear log holders. These rare andirons are the only known example to date of this uncatalogued Stickley design.
