Catalogue Note

The atelier of Pieter Scheemaeckers the Elder (1652-1714) belonged to the largest leading Antwerp workshops of his time, together with Artus II Quellin, Peter Verbrugghen and Willem Kerricx. They produced large-scale works, such as altars or sepulcral monuments, as well as smaller works in wood and stone, focussing on religious subjects and under the influence of contemporary Italian developments.
