Description
Comprising: a brooch of two tone open work design, set with cabochon fire opals and accented with circular-cut diamonds, maker's marks, British hallmarks for London, 1971; together with a ring centring on an oval cabochon opal, maker's marks DMR, British hallmarks for London, 1979.
Condition
The ring: stamped 750 for 18 carat gold, London, 1979, stamped DMR for David Michael Robinson. Light scratches consistent with wear. Opal displaying play of colour, predominantly orange. In good condition.
The brooch pendant: stamped 18 K for 18 carat white and yellow gold, London, 1971, maker's mark. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 0.55-0.65 carats, bright. Fire opals: some displaying play of colour. Scratches consistent with wear. In good condition.
David Michael Robinson registered with the Goldsmith's Hall in 1967 and his maker's mark is DMR in lozenges. His name is still used in jewellery made today.
Alan Martin Gard was born in London in 1935 and trained as a jeweller in Mayfair. Alan was both a contemporary and friend to Andrew Grima working together for four years in the early 60's. Alan then started up his own jewellery making business in 1964. He built up the workshop to twenty-five people, his designs used texture and gemstones, taking inspiration from nature and organic contemporary design. Gard was at his height of popularity in the 1970s he trades under the name Alan Gard Ltd. signing his pieces AMG.
