Description

Each of wire work and textured gold designs, both highlighted with brilliant-cut diamonds, one with maker's marks, British hallmarks for London, 1968 and the other signed, British hallmarks for London, 1971.

Condition

Born in 1938 he studied at the Twickenham School of Art 1955 – 1957 and during the later period specialising in metal-work and was awarded a Royal Society of Arts Bursary enabling him to study for a short time in Sweden with the Crown Jewellers W.A Bolin and later with the designer Sven Arn Gillgren. Between 1959 – 1961 David Thomas specialised in jewellery and silversmithing at the Royal College of Art London. His work was shown at the 1961 International Exhibition of Modern Jewellery in London and internationally throughout the 60's. In 1965 he moved his workshop from the bottom of his garden to Chelsea in London and enlarged his staff to five craftsmen. The brooch with British hallmarks for London, 1971 was part of the 'Atlantis' collection designed and made by David Thomas for 'Prestige- Jewellery Ltd'. 'Jewellery of today, heirlooms for tomorrow'. Both stamped 750 for 18 carat gold. 1968 brooch: Weighing approximately 27.4 grams. Slight tarnish visible, could benefit from a careful professional clean. Diamonds bright and lively. Rotating safety catch. 1971 brooch: Weighing approximately 33.5 grams. Slight tarnish visible, could benefit from a careful professional clean. Diamonds bright and lively. Stiff sliding safety catch. Both in good condition.
