- 85cm., 111cm. wide, 63cm. deep ; 2ft. 9½in., 3ft. 7¾in., 2ft. ¾in.
banded with ebony and with boxwood stringing, the top drawer fitted inside with a brushing slide, stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER
The present lot is similar to a coloured design for a chest of drawers which appears in the pattern book of Gillows of London and Lancaster ( Westminster City Archives, no. 735/1). Another similar example but in satinwood, banded in kingwood, tulipwood and purplewood appears in the Estimate Sketch Books, dated 24th October 1789 and is illustrated in Lindsay Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig.118, pl.11, pp.168 and 180.
The present lot also relates to a satinwood example sold Sotheby`s Important English Furniture, 20th November 2007, lot 170.

Condition
This piece is in good general condition. There are some small repairs to the top which has been re-finished. There are various old marks and scratches consistent with age and use.
