Catalogue Note
The crest is that of Ward of Ogbourne St. Andrew, co. Wiltshire. The earliest items in this lot were very likely owned by Thomas Rawdon Ward (1788-1863), eldest son of John Ward (1756-1829) of Stramshall, co. Staffordshire, and afterwards of Marlborough, co. Wilshire, who married on 8 November 1815, Ann (d. 1845), daughter and heir of Thomas Clark of Greenham, co. Berkshire. T.R. Ward, a partner in Ward, Brown & Co, bankers at Marlborough, was J.P., and Lieut.-Col. in the Royal Wilts Regiment of Yeomanry. He, who was succeeded by his eldest son, Col. Michael Foster Ward (1826-1915), eventually retired to live at Englefield Green, near Egham, Surrey.
