Description
- 13cm, 12 1/2 in high
Britannia standard, female caryatid handle terminating in a shell, applied at the lip with a further shell incorporating Diana mask, egg-and-dart strap girdle, the base with lobed strapwork, on circular gadroon knop and pedestal support

The `stretching' of the marks is most probably explained by the removal of later added ornament, returning the object to its original state. The present ewer is almost certainly the one sold at Chrities in 1957, where the cataloguer wrote `the lip chased at a later date with strapwork and foliage on matted ground and the body with a band of applied foliage and scroll work by Robert Garrard'
