Description

  • One with incised Johanneum number N=139 and blue enamel crossed swords mark, the other with large inscription "R:B:1750"in iron red

  • 22cm., 8¾in.
each painted with flowering peonies and chrysanthemum below pendent lotus

Condition

Both bottles and covers in overall very good condition, with very minor wear to the enamels.

Catalogue Note

The first vase is one of the copies of Oriental porcelain make at the factory for the French merchant Lemaire and subsequently impounded and placed in Augustus the Strong's own collection in the Johanneum. The other flat-based example bears a most unusual and unexplained inscription
