Description

each cast seated wearing long flowing robes adorned with floral scroll borders and holding ceremonial objects, the broad face with high arched brows over almond-shaped eyes and a bud mouth, all framed by an elaborate phoenix headdress, the hands and face gilt, wood stands

Condition

As illustrated: the figure on the left has minor loss to the two tips on the crown, a small depression and associated 3 x 1mm. hole to the lower right sleeve, a 2mm., diam., casting hole to the top of each knee and the top of each shoulder, a depression to the back with an associated 18cm., long two-pointed crack extending up to the back of the neck, and minor rubbing to the gilding on the face and hands; the figure on the right has similar casting holes to the knees (one 4x2mm.) and shoulders, a casting hole to the chest and back, loss to approximately 1cm. of the ruyi stem, and minor rubbing to the gilding on the face and hands. Otherwise the figures are in good overall condition and it should be noted that the patination of the metal is of a slightly lighter tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
