Description

the deep U-shaped body rising from three elephant-head gilt legs to an everted gilt rim set with a pair of tab handles, decorated around the exterior with three large rectangular panels enclosing lotus strapwork, all between lotus and pendent stiff leaf bands reserved on a turquoise ground, the domed cover similarly decorated and set with three pierced and gilt flower-filled ruyi panels and surmounted by a large pierced and gilt dragon finial

Condition

The censer and cover are in good overall condition with the exception of a circa 2cm., diam., depression to both the side of the body and to the cover with minor cracking and associated enamel loss, minor rubbing to the gilded areas, small areas of loss to the enamle on one handle and characteristic enamel pitting and shrinkage to both the body and cover.
