Description

the celadon-tinged stone carved in the form of a long plumed phoenix with its head turned back towards its back, grasping a high-relief carved bough of peonies, the long tail feathers cascading off its back in tight C-shaped curls, standing on a reticulated rocky base, the stone with chalky white inclusions with natural veins

Sotheby's London, 10th December 1968, lot 10.

Condition

The stone has some natural veining and the base is slightly russet. There is a minor chip to one of the petals of the flowers and a few other smaller nicks to the tips of the petals. The overall condition is quite good.
