Description

naturalistically carved as a bamboo stem with seven waisted sections, the hollowed underside carved in high relief with a cricket and a beetle, the top carved in low relief with further leafy young bamboo shoots, the stone of very pale celadon tone

Provenance

Acquired in Paris, 1962.

Condition

With the exception of minute nibbles to the edges of the bamboo leaves and the top and bottom edges of the carving, slight chips to the legs of the cricket, a russet natural hairline crack to the stone to the top corner (circa 3cm) and very light overall scratches to the surface, this piece is in good condition.
