Description
the beast carved crouching on all fours with head turned sharply looking over its back, the mane lightly incised and the haunches carved with scrolls, the stone of mottled greyish-white tone with dark grey and russet inclusions

Acquired in Paris, 1959.
Condition
With the exception of tiny nibbles to the extremities of the carving due to the natural veins of the stone, including a 2mm nick and a jagged 3mm section to the right ear, a 2mm section next to the right eye, a 7mm 'T'-shaped section along with 1mm nicks to the rear right leg, and very light overall scratches to the surface, this piece is in good condition.
