Catalogue Note
This mirror was owned by Claude Sainval, director of the theatre La Comedie des Champs Elysees , Paris, and a friend of Georges Jouve. He owned two mirrors by Jouve, one of which was given by the artist as an opening night gift, the other bought subsequently. It is believed that the current lot was the gift from Jouve.
A preparatory sketch of the design of this lot is reproduced in Philippe Jousse, Georges Jouve, Paris, 2005, p.177.
