Catalogue Note
Eric Sharpe (1888 - 1966) worked with the furniture maker Romney Green from 1921 - 1930 before setting up his own workshop in Martyr Worthy, Hampshire. Inspired by the work of Ernest Gimson, Sharpe's domestic furniture generally followed a simple Cotswold tradition but his unique contribution was his skill in letterning and wood carving as seen in this example.
