Catalogue Note

William Alfred Turpin was managing director of W. & G. du Cros in Acton, west London. The factory had produced and maintained taxi-cabs and motor vans until the outbreak of World War I, when it was promptly converted into a munitions factory. It was for his work in overseeing this transformation that Turpin was awarded the OBE. The testimonial album includes hundreds of signatures of garage and munitions workers many of whom were, of course, women.
