  • An Egyptian Limestone Relief Fragment and a Schist Figure of Hathor
  • Heights 5 3/4 in. and 5 1/2 in. 14.6 and 14 cm.
comprising a limestone relief fragment carved in sunk relief with the head of a woman facing right and wearing a wig of echeloned curls bound in a diadem and surmounted by a lotus flower, and a fragmentary schist figure of Hathor dedicated by the priest Horbes, Prophet of Banebdjed, to Hathor of Herakleopolis, the goddess standing with her arms held at her sides, and wearing a close-fitting robe, bracelets(?), belt decorated in relief, broad collar, and striated tripartite wig with uraeus, and headdress composed of the sun disk and ram's horns, the back pillar inscribed on three sides.

Condition

Hathor: as shown, minor chips to body, headdress fragmentary, nose, mouth, and one eye abraded, uraeus fragmentary, left hand missing, small chips along back pillar and elsewhere; Relief: as shown in photo, tan areas are restoration. Fill along breaks, profile is intact down to bottom of chin
